Stories From Kiribati

It was a very sad day for me when I heard that my best friend died. I cried and told mother, "Mum, my friend died yesterday! I want to visit him before he is buried."
My mother gave me some money so I went to the funeral feast. When I got at my friend's home, I saw my teachers and friends crying beside my friend who was lying and covered with white sheet. I stayed there for the whole day.
The next day, at 10 o'clock, the people took my friend and buried him in his grave. After that, the people went back inside the house. Everyone started eating and drinking. As I looked around, I saw my friend's mother who was still crying and looked very sad. I felt sad seeing her like that and because her son was my best friend at school.
In the afternoon, I went back home, closed the door of our house and went straight to my room. I again cried because I remembered my friend. My father came to me and said, "Your friend is now living in heaven with Jesus." Hearing that, I began to feel happy knowing that my friend was with Jesus in heaven.
